Detectives investigating the fatal stabbing of 26‑year‑old Gurbhej Singh in Southall have made a further arrest, one week after the attack that shocked the local community.

A 20‑year‑old man was arrested in the Southall area on Tuesday 16 June on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody.

It is understood that the man arrested is not the same individual who was arrested and bailed at the time of the incident. Police have not suggested that any of the seven men originally detained at the scene have been rearrested.

Emergency services were called at 00.41 on Wednesday 10 June following reports of a stabbing on North Road, near the junction with Dormers Wells Lane by the Sarin Superstore. Officers arrived alongside the London Ambulance Service and found two men with injuries. Despite efforts from paramedics, Gurbhej Singh, who had suffered a stab wound, was pronounced dead at the scene. His family is being supported by specialist officers.

A second man, in his 30s, was taken to hospital and has since been discharged.

Detective Chief Inspector Alison Foxwell, who is leading the investigation, said officers have been working intensively since the killing.

“Officers have carried out extensive enquiries since Gurbhej’s death last week, which have led us to arrest a suspect on suspicion of his murder,” she said. “I am aware of the concern that this tragic incident will have caused locally and I would like to thank the community for their patience while we have carried out our enquiries at the scene.

“I also want to thank those who have provided CCTV and other information that has helped us piece together what happened on the night of Gurbhej’s death. My thoughts remain with Gurbhej’s family and loved ones.”

Seven men, aged from their early 20s to late 30s, were arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder in the immediate aftermath of the incident. Six have since been released with no further action, while a seventh remains on police bail as enquiries continue.

Detectives are continuing to appeal for witnesses, information and any further CCTV or dash‑cam footage that may assist the investigation.
