Police have released a CCTV image of a man they wish to speak to following an assault at West Wealing railway station.

Officers from British Transport Police are investigating an incident that took place at around 7.45pm on Thursday 21 May.

According to officers, the victim had just tapped his card to exit the station when he realised another man was attempting to pass through the barriers behind him - an act which is sometimes described as tailgating and done by people wishing to avoid paying fro travel. The victim turned around and challenged the individual.

The situation escalated when the suspect punched the victim in the head, causing him to fall to the ground.

Police have now issued a CCTV image of a man they believe may have information that could assist with their investigation.

Officers are urging anyone who recognises the individual to come forward and contact British Transport Police, quoting reference 620 of 21 May.

Alternatively, information can be provided anonymously via Crimestoppers.
