A man has been charged with murder following the fatal stabbing of 26-year-old Gurbhej Singh in Southall earlier this month. Police were called at 00.41 on Wednesday 10 June to reports of a stabbing on North Road, near the junction with Dormers Wells Lane near the Sarin Superstore. Officers arrived with the London Ambulance Service and found two men with injuries. Despite the efforts of paramedics, Gurbhej Singh, who had suffered a stab wound, was pronounced dead at the scene. His family continues to be supported by specialist officers. A second man, in his thirties, was taken to hospital and has since been discharged.

Detectives have now charged Navjot Singh, aged 20 and from Waxlow Crescent in Southall, with murder, grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of an offensive weapon. He was arrested on suspicion of murder on Tuesday 16 June and is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 18 June.

Seven men were arrested at the scene in the immediate aftermath of the incident, all on suspicion of murder. Six have since been released with no further action, while the seventh remains on police bail as enquiries continue. Officers have not suggested that any of those originally detained have been re-arrested.

Detective Chief Inspector Alison Foxwell, who is leading the investigation, said earlier this week that officers had been working intensively since the killing and thanked residents for their cooperation and the CCTV footage provided. She acknowledged the concern the incident has caused locally and said the investigation remains active.

Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses, information or any further CCTV or dash-cam footage that may help establish the full circumstances of Gurbhej Singh’s death.
