A 32-year-old man who stabbed another man to death has been convicted of murdering a man in Greenford after CCTV evidence undermined his claim of self-defence.

Sabin Manda of Popes Lane in Ealing had been involved in a dispute over drugs with 27-year-old Bajram Luli on 11 March of this year.

The disagreement on Sudbury Heights Avenue escalated and Manda stabbed Bajram. The victim, who was from Edgware, was found injured in a car shortly after 5.30pm. He was taken to hospital where he died a short time later.

Manda was arrested ten days later having gone ‘off the grid’ claiming he was worried about possible retaliation. Police say they used ‘various forensic techniques to locate him’.

He told officers that he had acted in self-defence, but officers had found CCTV footage of the attack which showed that he was lying and the stabbing was unprovoked.

Detective Inspector Adam Guttridge, Specialist Crime South, said, “The investigation team worked long and hard to locate footage of this incident that helped disprove Sabin Mandas’s claims of self-defence.

“This was an unprovoked attack and Manda will now face many years in prison to consider the consequences of his actions.

“I can only hope his conviction brings some comfort to Bajram’s family.”

Manda was convicted on Thursday, 26 September at Inner London Crown Court and will appear at the same court on Thursday 11 October.
