Detectives investigating a reported rape in Ealing have arrested a man.

Earlier this month a CCTV image was issued of a man they wished to speak to as part of their enquiries but they said the man in the photo has now been identified and thanked the public for their assistance.

A 38-year-old man was arrested this Wednesday (18 September) on suspicion of sexual assault. He was taken to a west London police station and was subsequently bailed pending further enquiries.

The alleged attack took place on between 1am and 2am on Friday 5 July, the weekend when the quarter finals of the European Football Championships were taking place and the votes in the General Election were being counted.

A woman in her late teens was waiting at a bus stop near Ealing Broadway Station and Haven Green when she was approached by a man she didn’t know. Her took her to a nearby alley where he raped her.

The victim reported the incident to police and an investigation was launched, led by detectives based in Acton.
