A Met police officer has been charged with the offence of Misconduct in Public Office due to inappropriate possession and sharing of CCTV images relating to the alleged rape of one woman and the rape of another..

One of the cases concerns 37-year-old Natalie Shotter who died in Southall Park on 17 July 2021. 34-year-old Mohamed Iidow has been charged with her rape and manslaughter but the case has yet to come to trial.

Initially the police treated her death as unexpected, then arrested Iidow on 4 August 2021 but he was later released under investigation only to be charged earlier this year.

PC Adam Aspinall Da Encarnacao, attached to the policing team in West Area , will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 12 August. He was arrested on 12 September 2022 and has been suspended from duty since.

On Wednesday, 3 July the Crown Prosecution Service authorised two charges of misconduct in public office.

The police say they have informed Natalie’s family of the charge against PC Aspinall Da Encarnacao and said their thoughts and sympathies remain with them for their loss and for the impact this news will have. They have also informed the second woman.

Natalie’s mother, Dr Cas Shotter Weetman, a lead advance practitioner in cardiology, has led a campaign for justice for her daughter and believes that a culture of misogyny in the Met contributed to her death.
