An Ealing man has been jailed after police in Brighton caught him carrying what officers described as a “pick and mix” assortment of Class A and B drugs during a suspected street deal.

Hamza Adanir, 26, of The Green, Ealing, was stopped by officers on 22 February after they witnessed a member of the public flag him down in Sillwood Street. The pair briefly entered a nearby property, and within seconds Adanir re‑emerged alone — behaviour that immediately raised officers’ suspicions.

Police approached and detained him for a search, during which they discovered ketamine, cocaine, cannabis and a quantity of cash. All items were seized and Adanir was arrested at the scene before being taken into custody.

Two days later, on 24 February, he appeared at Brighton Magistrates’ Court charged with possession with intent to supply a Class A drug and two counts of possession with intent to supply Class B drugs. He pleaded guilty to all offences and was remanded ahead of sentencing.

Adanir returned to court on 24 March, where he appeared at Lewes Crown Court and was sentenced to 18 months in prison.

Police said the swift intervention was the result of proactive patrols targeting drug supply in the area, with officers acting immediately when they saw what they believed to be a hand‑to‑hand exchange. The discovery of multiple substances in Adanir’s possession — described by officers as a “pick and mix” of drugs — was cited as clear evidence of intent to supply.

Adanir’s conviction forms part of ongoing efforts to disrupt drug dealing in Brighton’s city centre, where police say visible patrols and rapid intervention remain key to identifying offenders and protecting vulnerable residents.
