A 43-year-old man from Ealing has been charged with murder in connection with the death of Vivienne Baraka last year.

Alvin Ghati of Uxbridge Road is set to appear at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 9 October after being charged the previous day.

35-year-old Vivienne was found seriously injured at a property at Riverside Close in North Hanwell on the afternoon of Tuesday, 26 March 2024. Police had been called by neighbours concerned for her well-being.

Despite the best efforts of the emergency services, she was pronounced dead at the scene. A post-mortem examination showed she had died from compression to the neck.

Ghati was arrested at the scene before being released under investigation before being rearrested this week.

Vivienne's family said, "We, the family of the late Vivienne are overwhelmed with news that Alvin has been found culpable of her murder, 18 months after her death. Vivienne had an infectious smile, was a mother, sister, daughter and was a bubbly person who was full of life. Vivienne was outgoing and loved to support her family, friends and community.

"The family continues to struggle with her untimely departure and aren't sure if time will ever bring solace or healing after she was taken too soon from us. We welcome the news that brings both joy and sadness at the same time. Having said that, the family would like to thank Met Police and any other professionals for their tirelessly efforts to find justice for Vivienne."
