A man from Perivale has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his wife in a violent knife attack earlier this year. Mugurel Nica, 51, of Jubilee Road, was found guilty at Southwark Crown Court on Tuesday 16 September of killing Ana Maria Murariu, and was sentenced this, Wednesday 1 October), to life in prison with a minimum term of 21 years.

The attack occurred in the early hours of Friday 28 February, when police responded to a 999 call made by a family member at 1:40am. Officers arrived at the address on Jubilee Road to find Ana Maria in a critical condition.

Despite efforts by police to administer CPR before paramedics arrived, she died at the scene from multiple stab wounds. Nica was arrested at the property and charged with murder the following day.

Detective Inspector Richard Kempshall, who led the investigation, described Ana Maria as “a victim of appalling domestic violence” and praised the strength of her four children throughout the trial. “We hope today’s sentence offers a meaningful step towards their healing,” he said. “I would like to once again extend my heartfelt thanks to the responding police officers, who detained Nica and attempted to save Ana Maria’s life. The professionalism and courage displayed by them was of the highest standard.”

DI Kempshall also urged others experiencing domestic abuse to seek help, stating, “It is our hope that anyone else suffering such violence may consider reaching out and asking for help when they hear of Ana Maria’s story.”

Support for victims of domestic abuse is available via the police non-emergency line 111, or 999 in cases of immediate danger.
