A murder investigation has been launched following the killing of Andrew Farmer, an 85-year-old Ealing resident who died following an assault at Charing Cross Hospital. Mr Farmer, described by his partner Paul Wrigley as “scholarly but with a wry sense of humour,” He praised his deep interests in opera, Devon topography, and social justice.

The incident occurred on 18 September when police were called to reports of an assault between patients at the hospital. Mr Farmer succumbed to his injuries a week later, on 25 September. His death has prompted a murder investigation led by Metropolitan Police detectives.

A 70-year-old man, Anatoliy Podmazko, of no fixed address, was arrested at the scene and charged with grievous bodily harm. He is scheduled to appear at Isleworth Crown Court on 17 October. Police continue to work with the Crown Prosecution Service as the investigation progresses.

Detective Inspector Kirsten Hadleigh, who is leading the case, said, “Our thoughts remain with Andrew’s family and friends at this undoubtedly difficult time.”

Farmer’s death has deeply affected those who knew him in Ealing, where he was known for his intellect, compassion, and enduring partnership with Wrigley. “My partner through thick and thin for 60 years. Now sadly missed,” Wrigley said.
