A look at their use within plays with local playwright David Erdos September 18, 2023 A workshop is to be held at The Questors Theatre for writers, actors and directors titled ‘The Art of the Monologue’. One person alone on a stage, in the spotlight, delivering a monologue. We are all familiar with this theatrical format, but what makes a solo performance great? The workshop looks at the use of monologues within plays and in the development of the one-person stage show. The session is being led by local playwright and poet David Erdos as part of the QExtra programme of new writing at the theatre. He says those taking part will be encouraged to try out pieces of their own devising in the Questors studio. "This event is aimed at anyone who is keen to explore play structure and the demands of this still developing form," he says. "We want people to bring along pieces they are working on. This is a mixture of workshop, rehearsal and examination. It is intended to bring to life the challenges and rewards of theatre’s most challenging medium. "We will explore the links between storytelling, dramatic poetry, resonance and musicality. And over time, we hope to develop a series of solo performance pieces."
The workshop takes place in the Questors Studio on Monday 25 September at 7.45pm. Admission is just £5, payable on the door.
