The next lecture presented by The Arts Society Ealing is entitled Japonism to Modernism: Japanese influences on Western Art.
Following the opening of Japan to Western trade in the 1860s, paintings, prints and artefacts from Japan came to Europe and the West, creating new styles and demand for all things ‘Japanese’: this continued into the 20th century and inspired artists to create daring new designs in architecture, space and design.
The lecturer Suzanne Perrin has taught Japanese history and culture, has lectured at the V & A and founded Japan Interlink in 1995 to promote the understanding of Japan in the UK. In 2016 she published Bridges: Anglo-Japanese Cultural Pioneers 1945-2015.
This talk is at 7:30pm on Monday 25 April at St Barnabas Church Hall, Pitshanger Lane, Ealing W5 1QG.

The Arts Society Ealing belongs to the large umbrella organisation, The Arts Society, previously known as the National Association of Decorative and Fine Arts Societies (NADFAS), which was founded in 1968. The local Society, which has a membership of around 140, is now one of the 388 member societies of The Arts Society that have been formed throughout the United Kingdom, in parts of Europe and in Australia and New Zealand.
