The Ealing Borough planning committee is due to meet later this month to consider a major development near the Hanger Lane Gyratory.

A proposal is being made for a mixed-used development called Manhattan Place of five towers up to 13 storeys high on the north side of the A40.

The scheme would include light industrial space, offices and 326 flats with the residential component shielded from the A40 and nearby railway line. The Manhattan Business Park sits in the southern edge of the wider Westgate Triangle.

The proposed development comprises towers arranged as two U-shaped blocks and a taller rectangular block to the east. All the flats would be on the higher floors and arranged around podium courtyard gardens with south facing shared communal terraces on the upper floors. There would be more shared amenity space for residents including a gym and a cinema.

The scheme would contain 144 one bedroom flats and studios, 148 two bed and 34 three bed units with 68 parking spaces at basement level.

A new pedestrian route would be created linking the development to the west and the River Brent.

The design of the scheme has been drawn up by Squire and Partners Architects on behalf of the client ‘Manhattan Assets No.9 Limited’ and will be on the agenda for a meeting of the planning committee on 20 July.

The site is currently occupied by 8 industrial units and a two storey corner office unit that has been converted to 10 private apartments.

Overview of the scheme from the planning application documents

Over 200 objections to the application have so far been received with residents complaining about the height, density and inappropriateness of the design for the location.

The application reference is 212468FUL.
