Man who claimed to have a gun surrounded on North Acton Road
Armed police arrested a man in Park Royal this Wednesday (23 December) after he allegedly entered a bank nearby and threatened staff with a firearm. The suspect, believed to be in his late teens, was detained on North Acton Road just after 2.30pm after the police closed off the road. Specialist armed officers were seen getting out of an unmarked police vehicle to carry out the arrest. Video posted on social media shows a man in a white shirt surrendering after being surrounded by police officers with guns near the junction of Minerva Road and North Acton Road. A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said, “Police were called at 14:36hrs on Wednesday, 23 to a bank in Acton Road NW10 after a man entered and claimed to staff that he was in possession of a suspicious device in a rucksack bag. “He then left the bank and police were called. The man, believed to be aged in his late teens, was detained by armed officers a few minutes away. A suspected firearm was recovered - at this stage it is not believed to be genuine. “Specialist officers attended and cordons were put in place while the bag was assessed. “The incident has now been stood down and cordons lifted and roads re-opened. “The man remains in police custody. “There are no reported injuries.”
