Eight police cars and vans and ambulances in South Ealing Rd by Wickes.Apparently a big gang fight broke out earlier.

Watermans

One of the main appeals of Watermans was it's site overlooking the river.  It had long since ceased to offer drama for all and was mainly a place to pop in for lunch and a drink and see a film.  The parking charges put one off.  When they hosted the drama schools it was interesting but that seems to have been a one off.  This probably heralds the demise of Watermans as it is likely to close prior to any other space being available and will then struggle to build up again.

Does anyone know if Ealing Studios gives tours.  I grew up in Ealing and have been away for 40 years and will be home in June 2015.? Thanks.

The trail of things that the Assyrian Centre in South Ealing has done in breach of planning permission continues to grow.The latest addition is a couple of flagpoles with flags attached to the building.

The Avenue Antiques, Vintage & Retro Market  Sat 28th 9-5pm

The Market is on again this Saturday.  Opposite West Ealing Station and the The Avenue W13. Outside the Drayton Court Hotel and also this time in the garden of the pub too which is good for kids.  There will be around 30 stalls with a very broad range of items for the collectors and the curious.  Lots of kitchenalia and up-cycling as well as true antiques and true vintage.  Silverwear, precious or unusual books, sewing patterns from the past, Japanese porcelain, vintage tea sets, lace, brass fittings, old tools, art deco, treen, walking sticks and furniture.  Look forward to seeing you all.

Any fish in the River Brent?

I walk regularly along the banks of the River Brent in Pitshanger Park and have never seen any fish. An information board in the park alludes to sticklebacks and perch but has anyone ever spotted any?

Ealing Hospital maternity unit closure

I understand it is likely the closure of Ealing hospital maternity unit will be announced tomorrow at the meeting of the Clinical Commissioning Group for Ealing. I've received an invitation to join the protest but I can also see that Healthwatch Ealing have been closely involved in the discussions about the closure and the Chair, Carmel Cahill, seems to have devoted most of her waking hours to ensuring the closure is safe. The r e has been a other layer of inspection of the decision in February from NHS England. It is of course nice to think that your maternity unit is just down the road when you need it, but the truth is that times have changed. When I had my first child, it was usual to stay in hospital for five days. Now it is more likely to be a few hours. Less beds are wanted. I hope new mums still get fed as having babies is hungry work and I hope the public transport arrangements are in place, but this is not the scary proposal Julian Bell and Rupa Huq would have us believe.

Vehicle Excise checks taking place

Very gratifying to see that somebody has been out enforcing untaxed vehicle offences in the Northfield's area by placing a bl**dy great yellow wheel clamp on the offside front wheel of offending vehicles.Quite surprising just how many untaxed vehicles there are!I'd love to see the faces of the owners when they see those clamps.  :-)

Mail collection reductions

I have just noticed that the Ealing Common area has lost its 5.30pm Royal Mail collections. According to the sign on our nearest post box, the last collection each day is now 9am (repeat 9am) Monday to Friday and 7am on Saturdays. There is just one box in the ward that has a 4pm last collection. How did this sneak in?Is this happening everywhere?

Does anyone recognise this "Minder" location?

I've been contacted by Jonathan Gibbs of the minder.org fan site who is trying to establish all the locations where the TV series starring Dennis Waterman was filmed. He is keen to find out where the building referred to as "The Old Legion Boxing Hall" was. He seems to think it was in Greenford or Acton. Does anyone remember it?

These are a ‘national spring clean’, backed by the Government, that aims to spruce up the country’s high streets, residential and business areas, villages and parks...plans for the day at Fitzherbert Walk are to hold a series of volunteer tasks including:• Cutting back excessive vegetation• Clearing pile of dead wood into ‘habitat piles’ (homes for wildlife such as fungi,beetles and nesting birds)• Filling in potholes in the path to provide a better surface for bikes and walkers• Putting up bird and bat boxes ready for use• Removing unsightly rubbish and litterCome along on the day and make a difference in your area! CPZ abuse

Can it be a coincidence that the proposed CPZ changes reported on this website were slipped in a now barely circulated local newspaper, are proposals that best suit the employer of the same councillor responsible for parking ?I wonder if he is to be one of the recipients of said permits?This councillor and his chums and their somewhat distorting & underhand methods are nothing short of despicable.Every paying CPZ permit holder should have been clearly informed about the intentions of changes to the system. This should have been done in 'About Ealing' and/or emailing every CPZ holder which would contact the vast majority.If I get emails from LBE consulting me on all manner of proposals many of which are not relevant to me, why not one on something that is?It's a fiddle. It's seems also to be a rather characteristic technique of this councillor's employer, A2Dominion.  Are they pulling his strings?Just 25 permits near a station or shopping area will be enough to return some streets to the problems that led residents to sign up to a CPZ in the first place.It wholly undermines those who are paying already too much for all day zones which exist because of the risk of all day and part day parking.The original remit for CPZs in Ealing was as a service first and foremost to local residents.It was also not for profit and would never rise higher than the rate of inflation.This was reiterated again and again.  I know. I was one who attended many 'resident partnership' meetings with the then Labour administration when the CPZs were in their infancy. Zone C in particular.  " Any operating surplus will be ploughed back into the zones for improvements to roads and services"In any case, why are local registered GPs having to pay for permits? Why do they not have free permits for Zones that fall into their practice domains?In actual terms it costs nothing. A very poor justification and rather crass to use medics as an excuse to justify others most certainly not deserving.Why are full time unpaid carers paying for permits?Why are elderly over 80 not getting an allowance of free visitor permits?Businesses have had to pay top dollar if they happen to be based inside a CPZ.This hit sole traders and small businesses like small shops very hard and forced some out completely.This latest proposal is purely to suit this councillors employers at A2Dominion who no doubt will be paying for the permits from the large amount of taxpayers money they receive with no accountability.It is bad enough that a Council Leader has failed to explain a highly unorthodox arrangement with A2D over a property but to find another high ranking portfolio councillor also employed by the said company and behind a rather hypocritical change that undermines the whole ethos the CPZ scheme nothing short of shameless.It would not surprise me if they also get free permits.As others have mentioned, there really should be a rather full investigation, why is this not being pressed hard for?

BUSES & YET MORE BUSES

We have E2.3 7 10 etc etc. ONLY in Greenford can they stop opposite each other outside Lidl & cause a bottleneck. Park opposite Tesco then have to cut across the traffic for right turn buses only.2 or 3 buses at a time for the masses, parked in or out of bus stops
