Event in Dominion Centre being held during Ealing Climate Week
September 19, 2025 An exhibition highlighting the lived experiences of children affected by climate change around the world is currently on display at the Dominion Centre in Southall as part of Ealing Climate Week. Titled Letters from the Global South, the exhibition features handwritten letters, drawings, and photographs from communities facing the direct impacts of environmental degradation. The exhibition has been curated by campaign groups Zero Hour and Muslims Declare, and has previously toured churches, mosques, universities, and community centres across the UK. Its arrival in Southall has been facilitated by Ealing Friends of the Earth (EFoE), a local environmental group active in the borough since the 1970s. The aim of the exhibition is to raise awareness of the proposed Climate and Nature Bill, a cross-party initiative that seeks to make the UK’s international climate and biodiversity commitments legally binding. A spokesperson for Zero Hour said the exhibition was designed to “give voice to those on the frontlines of the climate crisis,” and includes contributions from children, parents, and teachers in regions experiencing drought, flooding, and habitat loss. Ealing Friends of the Earth, which campaigns locally on issues including air quality, tree cover, and sustainable transport, said the exhibition’s message was especially relevant in light of recent government decisions to expand aviation capacity. “Eighty percent of the world’s population has never flown,” a spokesperson noted, “yet aviation remains one of the fastest-growing sources of emissions.” EFoE is part of the national Friends of the Earth network and has long advocated for community-led environmental action. The group has supported local campaigns against Heathrow expansion, promoted biodiversity through tree planting and garden awards, and regularly hosts stalls and workshops across the borough. Following its run at the Dominion Centre (112 The Green, Southall UB2 4BQ), the exhibition is expected to travel to other venues in Ealing, with further dates to be announced. Ealing Climate Week runs from 20 to 28 September and includes a range of events focused on sustainability, climate education, and community action.
