Major Upgrade for Community Mental Health Care in Ealing |

Half a million spent on the Wolsey Wing at St. Bernard’s Hospital
September 9, 2026 A major £500,000 investment has been made to enhance care for people living with some of the most complex mental health conditions in Ealing, with new facilities, expanded therapeutic spaces and closer links between key clinical teams now in place at within the St Bernard’s Hospital complex, adjacent to Ealing Hospital. The funding has transformed the community mental health service based in the Wolsey Wing, creating new clinic rooms, therapy areas and a shared space with the Trust’s crisis assessment team. The improvements are designed to offer more joined-up care for adults experiencing complex psychosis, including schizophrenia and bipolar disorder — many of whom have faced repeated hospital admissions or long inpatient stays. While home visits will continue for those who need them, the refurbished environment provides a safe and supportive setting where patients can attend appointments, build confidence, establish routines and gradually increase their independence. The upgraded facilities also open the door to a wider range of therapeutic and social activities. Patients will now have access to gardening projects, occupational-therapy-led groups and community-based engagement sessions aimed at reducing isolation, supporting recovery and helping individuals develop everyday living skills. Yashvin Greedary, Lead Practitioner, said the changes will make a meaningful difference to how the team supports people. “Our role is to help people build independence, support their recovery and give them ownership of their care. The new environment gives us more opportunities to do that, while still offering the flexibility to meet patients where they feel most comfortable.” The investment has also strengthened links with partner services, including the Ealing Crisis Assessment Home Treatment Team (ECHATT) and the Clozapine Clinic. Improved proximity and shared space mean faster communication, closer collaboration and earlier identification of concerns — all of which help prevent relapses and reduce avoidable hospital admissions. “For many patients, coming into the Wolsey Wing is about much more than attending an appointment,” Yash added. “It’s an opportunity to build confidence, reconnect with the community and take positive steps in their recovery journey.” The service continues to offer regular multidisciplinary reviews and personalised support to help keep people safe within their communities.
