Storage area and office damaged on Mandeville Road
April 1, 2025 London Fire Brigade investigators have blamed the failure of a smart gas meter for a fire which broke out in Northolt this Saturday (29 March). Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters from Wembley and Northolt fire stations were sent to Mandeville Road after the first of eight calls were received at 9:51am. It took just over an hour to get the fire under control by which time most of an external storage area and a small part of an adjoining office had been damaged. Five people left the building before the Brigade arrived. There were no reports of any injuries. In the UK, reports of fires caused by smart gas meters are extremely rare, with documented cases of fires associated with smart meters involving electric meters, often due to improper installation rather than the devices themselves. Safety measures fir smart meters include rigorous testing and compliance with UK and EU safety standards. According to Smart Energy GB, smart meters undergo one of the most rigorous safety testing regimes globally, exceeding every UK and EU safety standard.
