One of Ealing’s longest enduring businesses has announced that it is to close.

Daniel of Ealing on Uxbridge Road was founded by Walter James Daniel in 1901 and has remained a family-owned business ever since.

Initially opened as a small draper’s shop, Walter struggled to pay his rent as the business started slowly and offered to return the keys to his landlord. However, the landlord urged him to persevere and, by keeping the shop open from early morning to 9pm, the business eventually began to thrive.

Walter’s son Charles joined the business and later purchased a shop in Windsor, marking the beginning of the company’s expansion. The product range was widened to include quality furniture, homeware, and fashion.

The business has remained in the family, with Peter Daniel now serving as Chairman and the 4th & 5th generations of the family are working in all areas of operations. Daniel Department Store has also been recognised by the highest authority with a Royal Warrant as a supplier of Gifts to the Royal Household.

The shop established itself as the cornerstone of the local community serving generations of customers, but rising costs and challenging market conditions have led to the difficult decision to close the historic store.

There will be a Final Clearance Sale to give customers one last opportunity to take advantage of significant discounts with all stock to be cleared.

A highlight of the sale is the huge discounts on beds, including top brands such as Relyon, Dunlopillo, and Sleepeezee many offered at half price.

The Daniel of Windsor flagship store in the county of Berkshire continues, as well as the online store: danielstores.co.uk.
