Three local police officers have been praised after rescuing a nine-year-old boy from the River Brent in Hanwell this Saturday (30 March).
Police Sergeant Yusuf Hassaniyeh, Police Community Support Officer James Tupman and Police Constable Lee Dahir were called to the scene near Studland Road after a report by a member of the public at around 3pm.
The child appeared to be stranded in waist high water and was not responding to members of the public or police, so Sergeant Hassaniyeh entered the river to retrieve him, bringing him back with the assistance of PCSO Tupman and PC Dahir to waiting ambulance paramedics.
The boy was reunited with family members and had not suffered any ill-effects from the ordeal.
Sergeant Hassaniyeh, said afterwards, "When the call was circulated, there was no hesitation. We knew that every second counted, and we were determined to reach the child before it was too late.”
Acting Chief Inspector Jonathon Hubbard praised the officers for their courage and dedication. "Their bravery exemplifies the finest qualities of the police service," he remarked. "We are immensely proud of their actions, which may well have saved a child’s life.”
