Domestic abuse charity benefits after local branch staff recommendation May 5, 2026 Hestia, the charity supporting people in Ealing through domestic abuse, mental health crises and homelessness, has received a £2,500 donation from the Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation after being nominated by staff at the Society’s Ealing branch. It is the second local organisation in recent months to benefit from the Foundation’s Small Change Big Difference® scheme, following a previous award to the Ealing Foodbank. Hestia’s work in the borough is extensive and often life-saving. The charity runs domestic abuse refuges, outreach services, Independent Domestic Violence Advocate (IDVA) support for people with complex needs, homelessness prevention programmes and the Ealing Safe Space, a drop-in mental health crisis service for adults. Together, these services help some of the borough’s most vulnerable residents move from crisis to long-term stability. The nomination came from Amira Hassan, a Customer Consultant at Yorkshire Building Society’s Ealing branch, who said she sees first-hand the pressures facing local residents. “We are proud to be able to support Hestia in our community with a donation from Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation,” she said. “Hestia provides an essential service in Ealing, supporting people affected by domestic abuse, mental health challenges and homelessness. Their work helps individuals feel safe, supported and able to rebuild their lives.” Hestia welcomed the support, emphasising the difference it will make to families and individuals in crisis. Rosa Dennis, Philanthropy & Partnerships Coordinator, said: “We are delighted Yorkshire Building Society is joining us to ensure more adults and children find safety, hope and purpose after crisis.” The Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation is funded by members who donate the pennies from the annual interest on their accounts. Since 1999, the Foundation has distributed more than £10 million to small charities across the UK, with a particular focus on organisations providing urgent support to people experiencing hardship.
