Yorkshire Building Society makes donation after suggestion by local staff March 3, 2026 An Ealing charity that supports local people through financial crisis has received a £2,500 boost from the Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation, following a nomination from staff at the Society’s Ealing branch. Ealing Foodbank, which is part of the Trussell Trust’s national network, will use the donation to continue supplying three days’ worth of nutritionally balanced emergency food parcels to residents experiencing acute hardship. Alongside food support, the charity provides signposting to specialist advice on debt, benefits and housing, helping people tackle the underlying causes of their situation rather than only the immediate need. The donation was put forward by Janina Kreciewska and Amira Hassan who work at the building society’s branch on High Street, Ealing. Speaking about the award, Amira Hassan said the branch sees first-hand how many people rely on the foodbank and regularly collects donations on its behalf. She added that staff wanted to do more to support an organisation that plays such an important role in the community, and welcomed the Charitable Foundation’s decision to provide funding for its work. A spokesperson for Ealing Foodbank said the charity was extremely grateful for the support, noting that many residents across the borough are struggling with rising costs. They said the donation would directly help people in crisis by funding both food supplies and the advice services that can help individuals move out of hardship. The charity also expressed its hope of continuing to work with Yorkshire Building Society to support local people. The Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation is funded through the Society’s Small Change Big Difference scheme, in which members donate the pennies from the annual interest on their accounts. These small contributions are pooled to support charities offering urgent assistance to people facing financial difficulty. Since its launch in 1999, the Foundation has donated more than £10 million to good causes across the UK. Further details about Ealing Foodbank’s work can be found at ealing.foodbank.org.uk.
