Council rethinks car park charges across borough
Ealing Council’s leadership plan a range of measures to make parking in the borough cheaper, easier and fairer for car-owners. The cabinet is going to make parking free in all the council’s car parks after 6pm – currently charges run up to 10pm at some sites. These car parks will also now be free on public holidays, so families can relax and enjoy visiting places and shops in the borough on these days without having to rush back to their cars to avoid getting parking tickets. At a meeting on June 27, the cabinet agreed to freeze the cost of residents’ and traders’ parking permits for the next four years. It will also order a complete review of the council’s current car parking charges and tariffs. Cllr Will Brooks, cabinet member for environment and transport, said: “We are restoring a common-sense approach to parking charges in this borough. “Residents have been clobbered with hikes in charges in the recent past and it is about time they were made fairer. “We hope these changes will encourage drivers to use our car parks again rather than look for alternatives in nearby residential streets.” The proposed new hours of operation for the car parks to be agreed by cabinet tonight are as follows:
