It's never too early to start running and over the festive period is a great opportunity to start.

Now there's even more of an incentive - sign up this month and you can help a worthy local cause as well.

The Ealing Half Marathon, which took place for the first time in the Olympic year, will be back for the 3rd time in 2014 with a confirmed date of Sunday 28th September 2014.

The organisers have confirmed that registration for the 2014 race is open, with a limited number of early bird places available. For every runner who signs up in December organisers will donate £2.00 to the Ealing Churches Winter Night Shelter.

Alzheimer’s Society has been announced as the headline charity for the Ealing Half Marathon, and a range of other charities have also chosen the race as a platform to raise funds and awareness.

The Ealing Half Marathon 2013 saw over 4,000 runners cross the finish line in Lammas Park and new course records were claimed with winner Matthew Kiprotich Kimutai from Run-Fast completing the course in 1:04:33 and Gladys Ruto securing a new women’s course record in 1:15:28.

The Ealing Half Marathon starts and finishes in West London’s Lammas Park with the race, retail and charity village at its heart. The 13.1 mile single lap course takes in parts of Central Ealing, Montpelier, Pitshanger, West Ealing, Hanwell and St Stephens before returning to Lammas Park.

The maximum capacity for the 2013 race is 6,000 and the organisers are expecting a sell out race. Introduced in the Olympic year in order to bring a mass participation sporting event to the Borough that would be a legacy to the Games, the Ealing Half Marathon is attracting runners of all levels from near and far, and the event sees a lot of support from the local communities and businesses.

Race Director Kelvin Walker commented: “We are pleased to announce that the Ealing Half Marathon 2014 has been launched and that registration is now open. The 2013 race was a huge success with lots of positive feedback, and we look forward to delivering another great event in 2014. We are very grateful for all the support we receive in organising and delivering the Ealing Half Marathon, and we feel passionate about spreading the #EalingFeeling amongst runners and residents.
“We would also like to welcome Alzheimer’s Society on board as our headline charity for 2014.”
Kat Cox, Alzheimer’s Society Running Events Manager said: ‘We are proud to be the headline charity for the 2014 Ealing Half Marathon. This event has a fantastic, friendly feel to it and we would love to welcome runners to the Alzheimer's Society team. If you would like to help raise vital funds to support the 70,000 people living with dementia in London, simply complete our online form at www.alzheimers.org.uk/running or call us on 0845 306 0898 after securing a place in the run.'

Public places cost £32 for affiliated runners and £34 for unaffiliated runners, and all finishers receive a distinctive medal and an online e-goody bag after the race. A limited number of Early Bird Places are available, giving runners £5 off the standard entry fee.
Sponsors and partner for the Ealing Half Marathon 2014 will be announced shortly.
