Residents are being warned that up to 20 lorries a day will be needed as demolition work starts for a housing development site on the Ealing/Brentford border.

Reynard Mill

Reynard Mills Trading Estate on Windmill Road has been the scene of five-year-long battle. Original plans for 315 flats with 7 and 6 storey tower blocks, were fought by local residents, who successfully campaigned to reduce the scale and density.

The Windmill Road Action Group were supported by the then Communities Secretary, Eric Pickles, who said: '' the density, scale and form of the development proposed would be harmful to the character and appearance of the area and would not achieve the high quality required by policy.''

Notting Hill Housing took over the development from LP Brentford and, after holding public consultation sessions and listening to objections, scaled down the application to 195 new homes which are expected to be complete in two years time.

A spokesperson from Notting Hill Housing said:

''Preparation work has already begun on the Reynard Mills site and is expected to continue until the Summer. After that, work will begin on construction of 195 new homes, 63 per cent of which will be available for shared ownership or affordable rent. Work is expected to be completed by late 2018.

''Our contractors for the development, Hill, held a drop-in session for people in the area on 27 January and received a positive response.''

Fixtures and fittings, are now being removed following which the buildings’ structural frame will be demolished. Debris from the demolition will all be removed from site. At peak, there will be approximately 20 lorries accessing the site throughout the day.

The anticipated programme of work can be viewed here (pdf)

Anyone with concerns about the development can call 0800 032 6760 between 8am and 8pm seven days a week, a series of further drop-in sessions will be held at various stages of the programme.
