Empire Cinema has told Ealing Council that it will not be building a car park on the derelict site after all.

It follows a mass campaign and petition which has attracted over 2,000 signatures from residents concerned about the company's intentions.

The site has been left neglected for nearly two years and there have been increasing fears that the Cinema project has been shelved.

This afternoon, Council Leader, Julian Bell received written confirmation that Empire Cinema did not want to 'leave an unsightly site and were not looking to open it as a car park'.

However Empire has not confirmed its intentions regarding the site and the petition - which has triggered a debate in the Council next week is still open.
