Not content with saving lives for their day job, medics from Ealing and Northwick Park Hospitals were among the participants in a virtual run which raised nearly £8,000 for patients recovering from Covid-19.

One hundred and twenty seven people took part in the digital footrace which covered the 1,300km distance between London and Lombardy. The race was organised by intensive care doctors on the frontline of the fight against the pandemic.

Ealing and Northwick Park were among the hardest-hit hospitals in the UK during the first wave while Lombardy was Italy's worst-hit region with 87,000 cases of Covid-19 and more than 16,000 deaths.

Among those taking part was Emma McLean, a junior doctor from Ealing, who joined colleagues from the Northwick Park Hospital Intensive Care Unit on the epic challenge.
