The RSPCA is asking for assistance from the public in finding out how a dog came to be thrown in a canal in Greenford with weights attached.

The English bull terrier named Sky was discovered on 13 March with two barbell weights tied around her neck. It is not known whether she was dead when she was thrown into the water.

Sky, who was less than two years old, had previously been properly cared for by a family in Wales who were traced through the chip they had placed in the dog. They told the RSPCA they had sold the dog to a man in Southall.

Despite extensive enquiries being made, the animal charity has been unable to find out how the dog came to be in the canal - and is now appealing to the public for help.

RSPCA inspector Dale Grant said, “We don't know at this stage if she was dead prior to being thrown in the canal.

“She was microchipped, to an address in Wales, and her previous owners confirmed they sold her to a man in Southall.

“We spoke to the new owner who stated he gave her away before Christmas but was unable to give further details.

“She was only young, under two, and by all accounts a lovable family pet.”

Anyone with information should contact the RSPCA’s appeals line on 0300 123 8018, using reference 1040894.

Mr Grant added: “I'd like to appeal for information with regards to Sky. If someone knows who Sky belonged to, I’d be grateful if they could get in touch with us. Sky was a distinctive-looking dog and someone must know something.”
