Firework Warning Issued After Garage Fire in Southall
Two incidents take place in close proximity in one night

London Fire Brigade has issued a warning about the use of fireworks after one set a garage in Southall alight.
The blaze was one of two that occurred around the same time in the area on Monday night (24 October).
The garage on St Crispin’s Close was destroyed and part of two vehicles inside the garage were damaged by the blaze.
999 Control Officers took 14 calls to the fire starting at 10:30pm and the incident was under control just after midnight (which was St Crispin’s day coincidentally). Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters from Southall, Northolt, Heston and Wembley fire stations attended the scene.
A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said, “We encourage people to attend organised fireworks displays instead of using fireworks privately, but if you do choose to use fireworks, make sure you have enough space, buy them from a reputable, licensed seller and always look for a CE mark to make sure they’re safe. Never drink alcohol and set off fireworks and don’t throw fireworks or return to a firework once it has been lit.
“Remember that fireworks are explosives, and as such should be treated with respect and only used in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions and the Firework Code.”

Almost at exactly the same time six fire engines and around 40 firefighters were called to house fire nearby on Thorncliffe Road at 10.34pm and it took just under two hours to get it under control. Fire crews from Ealing, Hillingdon, Southall, Feltham, Hayes and Kingston fire stations attended the scene.
The ground floor of a semi-detached house was destroyed and most of the first floor and the roof were damaged by fire. A small part of the roof space of a neighbouring property was also affected. There were no reports of any injuries.
The fire is believed to have been accidental and involved a fridge.
A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said, “If your white goods start making a strange noise, don’t ignore it. If you think there’s a problem always unplug it and contact the manufacturer or a qualified repair technician.
"Most fires where white goods are the source of ignition are not down to anything you have done – so always make sure you register your appliances as you’ll be informed if any issues are identified with the product you’ve bought.”
