A fire has broken out in a flat above shops on The Broadway in West Ealing this Wednesday afternoon (12 October).

London Fire Brigade says it received the first 999 call at 4.10pm and ten fire engines with 70 fire fighters were sent to the scene.

Part of a four-roomed flat on the second floor of the building which contains the Costa Coffee cafe was alight.

Station Commander Colin Digby, who was at the scene, said, "The fire took hold on the roof extension above the shop and there is some smoke coming out from the edges of the building.

"Crews are using one of the Brigade's 32-metre turntable ladders for elevated access."
