A major fire at a rubbish dump in Overdale Road broke out this Thursday afternoon (18 July).

Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to the scene.

London Fire Brigade say a pile of rubbish behind a row of garages was alight. Crews also removed a propane cylinder and cooled it to an ambient temperature as cylinders can explode when exposed to heat. The brigade considered an evacuation of the area but that proved unnecessary after dealing with the cylinders.

There were no reports of any injuries.

The Brigade was called at 3.10pm and the fire was under control by 14.54pm. Fire crews from Ealing, Chiswick, Heston and Southall fire stations were at the scene.

Because of the proximity of the fire to the tracks the Piccadilly line was suspended between Acton Town and Heathrow. The line has since reopened.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
