A police officer has been acquitted of a series of charges against him relating to an alleged assault that took place in Southall last April.

PC Bilal Naveed was found not guilty of assault and perverting the course of justice at the Isleworth Court trial on Friday 26 January.

On 1 April a man was injured on Church Avenue and PC Naveed, who worked with the North East BCU, was arrested a few weeks later appearing in custody at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 24 April. He was off duty at the time of the incident. He was accused of using his position to try and contact witnesses in his assault case.

Despite his acquittal he remains suspended from duty and the Directorate of Professional Standards and the IOPC are understood to be considering possible misconduct.
