A 28-year-old man from Hanwell is among 56 people who have been charged this Wednesday (16 March) with being part of the Insulate Britain protest which closed the M25.

Roman Paluch-Machnik of Cuckoo Dene, Hanwell has been charged with causing a public nuisance at Junction 14 of the M25 on 27 September 2021. He is due to appear at Stratford Magistrates' Court on Friday, 29 April along with 49 other defendants.

Paluch-Machnik is a warehouse worker who has been arrested on multiple previous occasions for participating in protests. In 2019 October he was charged with Obstruction of the Highway and tried at City of London Magistrates’ Court where he was acquitted.

In an earlier statement he said, “We are not enemies of the people. Everything we have done has been for the people. Here and abroad. Sending us to prison is an attack against those who are willing to fight for what is right, and who understand that a crucial aspect of our democracy is the right to peaceful protest.

“And so, I will end by once again asking, will the government, the justice system, and pillars of our democracy, begin doing what is necessary to insulate people’s homes, start taking meaningful action to reduce our carbon emissions, and do what is necessary to provide freedom, safety, and security for all life on this planet?”

The police say that enquiries are continuing into other protests held by the Insulate Britain group.
