A police officer based in Ealing has been dismissed from the force without notice for gross misconduct after being found guilty of driving to work over the limit.

At an Accelerated Misconduct Hearing held on 24 January it was concluded that PC Dilraj Singh, who worked as an emergency response and patrol officer, had put the public, his colleagues and himself in danger.

On the day he arrived for work drunk he had been equipped with a taser which the hearing decided he could not have been fit to use.

He had claimed that he had not drunk alcohol until he had arrived at work but had previously been found guilty in criminal proceedings.

He had already received being a two year disqualification from driving.

Mr Singh made no representations at the hearing although he previously had claimed his behaviour was due to stress at work and home for which he had not been well-supported by his supervisors. A review of his record of service since joining the Met in 2017 described it as ‘unremarkable’ and his local unit commander made no request for him to be retained.

The chair of the hearing concluded, “A police officer behaving in this way, that is firstly in drinking and driving and being unfit for duty, and secondly in being convicted of and sentenced for the relevant criminal offence, discredits the police service and undermines confidence in it.”
