Flying Squad arrest man in connection with eight incidents at supermarkets
Officers from the Flying Squad have detained a man on Northfield Avenue in Ealing this Thursday morning (25 February) in connection with a series of armed robberies In which over £25,000 worth of cash and goods were stolen. The 45-year-old man was arrested following a proactive operation as part of an investigation into eight knifepoint robberies at supermarkets between Friday, 16 October 2020 and Thursday, 25 February. Officers recovered a large kitchen knife during the arrest. The robberies took place in Hounslow, Ealing, and Richmond and police believe they are linked. In each of the cases, the suspect is alleged to have waited for the store to be opened by staff members, before threatening them with a knife. He then stole cash from the tills, and on occasion, cigarettes, alcohol, and scratch cards, which were placed into a black holdall and a bin bag or Sainsbury’s plastic bags. The man is in custody at a south London police station.
