A man has been charged with murdering his own mother in Greenford.

31-year-old Shanil Patel of Drew Gardens is due to appear in custody at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court late Friday (27 November).

The police were called at 5pm on Wednesday, 25 November to reports of a woman found injured at Drew Gardens. A police helicopter was also sent to the incident.

They found the 62-year-old Hansa suffering from head injuries, and despite the efforts of London Ambulance Service paramedics, she was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:22pm.

Mrs Patel worked at Ealing Hospital and was described as a kind person by her neighbours. She was off work at the time of her death but was looking forward to retirement in the coming year.

Chief Superintendent Peter Gardner said, “This is a devastating incident and my thought are with the victim’s family at this difficult time.

“I would like to reassure residents who will have noted a large police presence in the area last night and throughout today. These officers are there to assist with the investigation and also to provide local reassurance and support.”

Shanil Patel was remanded in custody and will appeared at the Old Bailey on Tuesday 1 December.
