Significant disturbances occurred in Greenford this Halloween night (31 October) involving up to 50 local youths.

As a result two people were arrested and the police instituted a dispersal order in the area.

The police were first called to The Broadway in Greenford at 6.57pm to reports of fireworks being thrown. On arrival they found several groups of youths on The Broadway on neighbouring roads.

Video footage shows a confrontation between one group and the police in which a firework was fired towards officers exploding above their head.

A 17-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and assaulting an emergency worker. He subsequently received a caution. The officer involved was uninjured.

A second male was arrested on suspicion of obstruction.

As a result of the disorder, a section 35 dispersal zone was authorised by Inspector Bowles until 8pm the following evening for an area covering Greenford Broadway, Greenford Green, Hobbayne, Dormer Wells and Lady Margaret wards.
