Appeal to Collect 500 Winter Coats in Hanwell | |
Local businesses providing drop off points for warm clothing drive December 15, 2022 A woman from Hanwell has launched a campaign to collect warm winter clothing for those in need in the area. Annie Ryan was inspired by volunteers at the Hanwell Community Centre and spurred to action when she saw a news report about a coat drive in Plymouth. She says, “I am a recently widowed mum of two young boys. Ealing has the highest food bank users in London and so one day recently I went to meet with some of their volunteers at Hanwell Community Centre. They were beavering away preparing clothing parcels for families in the Ealing Borough and they said .. ‘sadly we are desperate for warm winter coats .. mainly men but also children and women.’” This prompted her to launch the Hanwell Coat Drive which aims to collect 500 items by the end of the year. The coats will be distributed at Ealing Food Bank, Ealing Soup Kitchen and other local groups. They need to be clean and in good condition. Many estate agents, pubs, local library, gift shop and Hanwell Town FC and also local girls’ football team Evolve are on board. Drop off points include Amreen’s Gift Shop, The Kings Arms, The Duke of York. Doyle Sales and Lettings, Hanwell Community Library, Sinton Andrews in Greenford and W7 Inn On The Green. Annie says, “Come on .. it's freezing out there .. this is a not-for-profit campaign, no money donations .. just good used coats!”
