Youth Group Launched for Children with Learning Disabilities | |
Ealing Mencap's project is called My Town A range of activities has been developed in the area for children with learning disabilities by Ealing Mencap. The move has been made in response to the closure of other youth groups. Charlie Hammerton, who works for the charity in the local area, has helped set up a supported youth group called My Town in which the members choose which activities to undertake by voting. The group meets in the community on Friday nights, Saturday mornings or Sunday afternoons depending on what they have decided to do. As Charlie says, “No more stuffy meeting rooms with lame arts and crafts!” So far, the group has taken part in survival courses, seen the circus, eaten at an exotic car showroom with a pizza shop providing inspiring days out for children who are most vulnerable and often forgotten about. There is also a closed social media platform for them to join without the threat of any outsiders accessing their information or plans for the weekend. For more information visit the Ealing Mencap website.
