A teenage boy will go on trial at the Old Bailey today accused of killing a pensioner during the riots in Ealing.

The youth, from Hounslow cannot be named for legal reasons, has already admitted looting four businesses.

Richard Mannington Bowes, 68, died on August 11 last year, three days after being attacked while trying to put out a fire in a dustbin near his home in Haven Green, Ealing.

The teenager denies murder and violent disorder, but has pleaded guilty to burglary at William Hill, Tesco Express, Blockbusters and Fatboys Thai restaurant on August 8.

He is due to go on trial with his 31-year-old mother.

She denies perverting justice by concealing or destroying the boy's clothes.
