Council cold weather arrangements

As temperatures remain low and with snow fall overnight, Ealing Council has put in place emergency plans to deal with the cold weather.

The council started with a 4,300 tonne stock pile of grit, a thousand tonnes more than last year, to ensure that roads and pavements are safe.

Last night and during the early hours of this morning, 110 tonnes of grit were spread on primary and secondary routes. Staff are now concentrating on gritting busy footways around stations, hospitals and shopping centres. Officers are keeping a close eye on weather updates to find out whether more snow is due and the council's 11 gritters will work around the clock to keep the borough moving.

Refuse and Recycling trucks are out and expect to be able to pick up waste from the majority of homes but a small number of very narrow streets or roads on hills may be difficult to access due to the icy conditions.

Two schools are currently closed – St Ann’s school in Springfield Road, Hanwell and Brentside Primary, Kennedy Road, Hanwell.

The council is asking residents to be good neighbours as the cold weather continues by checking that elderly or vulnerable people in their area are safe, warm and have essential supplies. Read more about keeping warm in winter
