Councillor Rajinder Mann dons Ealing’s civic robes after fellow councillors elected him as Mayor at the annual meeting of the full council last night. His wife Councillor Gurmit Mann will be his Mayoress.

Councillor John Gallagher has been appointed Deputy Mayor and Dr Rupa Huq has been appointed Deputy Mayoress. Councillor Gallagher will help Councillor Mann with his duties.

Councillor Mann has been a councillor for 16 years and was previously Deputy Mayor in 2005/2006. He takes over the role from Mrs Barbara Yerolemou.

The Mayor’s official charities are Age Concern Ealing and Ealing Association for the Blind. He will be running events to raise money for these organisations during his 12-month term.

The Worshipful the Mayor of the London Borough of Ealing, Councillor Mann, said: “It is a great honour to be appointed by my peers to become the Mayor for Ealing.

“The two charities I have chosen to support, Age Concern and Ealing Association for the Blind, provide valuable support to many vulnerable people in our borough and I look forward to helping them to raise awareness and money to continue their important work.”
