The Addison Group of Singers is an amateur choir based in West London and provides an opportunity for singers of all ages, abilities and walks of life to enjoy and explore a range of music, and comprises Jazz Choir, Jazz Ensemble, Oratorio and Chamber groups.

There are opportunities of singing in other parts of the country and abroad, with other choirs and orchestras, and of participating in a good social calendar. In past years we have performed at UK Festivals, and in Italy and France. In November 2005 we sang under the baton of our President at the Carnegie Hall in New York.

Choir members are encouraged and rehearsed to perform to a high standard. The music programmes include traditional, unusual and innovative contemporary pieces. It has been stated that ‘the music the Addison Singers perform, other choirs perform 12 months later’.

President

Bob Chilcott has a burgeoning reputation as one of Britain’s most popular and accessible composers of our time. He was a boy chorister and choral scholar at King’s College, Cambridge, and a prominent member of the King’s Singers for twelve years. Since 1997 he has worked as a full-time composer and conductor. He is Conductor of the 200 voice chorus at the Royal College of Music and Principal Guest Conductor of the BBC Singers.

Musical Director

David Wordsworth studied at Leeds University, The City University and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. From 1997-2003 David worked for the German music publisher Schott & Co. developing close working relationships with leading performers and composers of our time. He continues to guest conduct choirs, direct choral courses and address choral conventions, both at home and abroad.

Jazz Choir

Jill Jarman became Director of the Jazz Choir in September 2004. She is a dynamic jazz pianist, conductor and composer, and her album ‘Spirit Level’ has received much acclaim. Her background, both classical and jazz, is reflected in her compositions which cross the boundaries of both, and include symphonies and orchestral music, ensemble pieces, children’s songs, and big band and ensemble jazz. Jill also works as an orchestrator, pianist and conductor for many recordings, and has played with and directed musicians such as those in the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the London Symphony Chorus. She is currently undertaking a PhD in composition.

Accompanist and Choral Conductor

Matthew Hough studied Classics at Cambridge and also took his Performance Diploma prior to pursuing a career as an accompanist and soloist, piano teacher, singing coach and choral conductor. He formerly directed Opera Live, including productions at Covent Garden Open Air Festival, and was concert pianist on board the QE2. For the Addison Singers Matthew works as Director of the Jazz Ensemble, and deputy Musical Director, accompanist, tutor and vocal coach.

Matthew also performs as a soloist, recital and master class accompanist, and directs the St Martin Singers, an a capella group based at St Martin-in-the-Fields, London.
