Visit one of London's only working kitchen gardens.
* BREAD-MAKING
* PLANT SALES
* CHILDREN'S ART ACTIVITIES
* FLOWERS
* VEG
The Chiswick House Kitchen Garden will be open, offering a chance to catch up with progress in the gardens. The herb bed is looking great, the cutting garden is bursting with alliums and other flowers. The vegetables and fruits are being periodically harvested. Heritage and modern varieties are growing side-by-side.
Children (and adults) can create their own herb bread, mixing their own selection of freshly-picked herbs from the gardens to experiment with new tastes. There will be various art activities for the children, including life-size self-portraiture, flower-making, origami, etc...
Mint competition - guess the variety... Eau de cologne? Pineapple? Lavender? Lemon? Chocolate mint? And many more...
Twenty mature lemon trees, which used to stand around the amphitheatre have been rescued from a dry greenhouse, and are being nursed back to health. The Chief Entomologist at the RHS tells us they are infested by a rare Californian red scale insect. We are offering the unique opportunity for visitors to come and help us deal with these insects by using our hi-tec scraping implements.
There will also be a plant sale, including uncommon vegetable, flower and herb seedlings. Also stalls and refreshments.
