Gardeners to reap fertile rewards of food recycling

Free Compost offer for gardeners

Keen Ealing and Acton gardeners can get free compost to use on their plants shrubs and flowers on Wednesday May 10. The offer is being made to thank residents for taking part in the many recycling initiatives being run by Ealing Council, such as the green box scheme and food waste collections. It is also being held to mark International Compost Awareness Week, and to show some of the benefits of recycling food waste. The free give-away has been organised by Ealing Council and West London Composting Ltd, an organisation which turns food and garden waste into compost. The compost give-away will be held at Berkeley Fields, in Berkeley Avenue, Greenford, from 10am. Residents are encouraged to bring their own shovel and a bag to collect their compost. Earl McKenzie, Ealing Council's head of waste management, said: "We have always had a great turnout at previous year's give-aways so we advise people come early to avoid disappointment."

Ealing Council, working in partnership with Straight Recycling Ltd, is offering residents a special deal on compost bins.

Available in a large size (330 litres), they cost just £6 including delivery. Call 0845 1306090 for details or visit www.getcomposting.com/ealing.
