Aqua Extreme Hits Ealing!

Still a chance to make splash this summer

If your little nipper likes swimming pools but can't be persuaded to swim lengths there's still time to make the most of Aqua Extreme.

Aqua Extreme is the ultimate multi-activity pool session. It is a new wet side activity for 8-12 year olds that is running this summer, in association with Pro-Active West London, London Swimming, London Summer of Sport, Ealing Council’s Active Ealing and GLL (Greenwich Leisure Limited). The programme provides an alternative to mainstream swimming, making the familiar rectangular pool a playground of fun activities to enjoy. Aqua Extreme is held at Gurnell Leisure Centre every Tuesday from 1.30pm - 3.00pm throughout all school holidays in 2007, starting this summer - with sessions running until Tuesday 28 August.

As part of the programme, children will be treated to a synchronised swimming spectacular by Aquabatix, a professional team led by a qualified GB coach and synchronise swimmer. Aquabatix will be visiting Gurnell Leisure Centre on Tuesday 21 August from 1.30pm to give the kids a taster session and demonstration.

Pro-Active West London Partnership is the strategic lead for sports and physical recreation across the six boroughs in West London and is partnering the Amateur Swimming Association to launch Aqua Extreme as a six-borough initiative. With thanks to funding from London Summer of Sport, Aqua Extreme is an all-inclusive programme, which welcomes children with disabilities too. Activities include diving, mini polo and water safety.

Cathy Carr, the London Regional Development Officer for the London Amateur Swimming Association, stated: “Swimming is a great activity for kids, but may not appeal to all. By providing a multi-activity session, Aqua Extreme aims to keep kids in the pool and encourage them to stay active, learn new skills and realise how much fun pool activities can be.”

Andrew Clark, the Swimming Development Manager from GLL, stated: "Aqua Extreme is a great example of how our partnership with Ealing Council will give kids the opportunity to try other water based Olympic sports, have fun learning new skills and be inspired by champions. It is just one of a number of joint initiatives we are working on with the ASA to ensure the development of swimming in London.”

All 8-12 year olds must be able to swim 25 metres and be confident in deep water. To find out more information – please either visit or call: Gurnell Leisure Centre, Ruislip Road East, Ealing London, W13 0AL Tel: 020 8998 3241.
