Party takes to the streets in campaign against third runway
The local Lib Dems have launched a campaign across the borough against the Government’s plans to build a Third Runway at Heathrow. This will mean more people in Ealing, Acton and Chiswick will be disturbed as the flight paths move over the area.
Aviation is the fastest growing source of carbon dioxide in the UK and carbon dioxide emissions from Heathrow flights will rise by a further 40% if the runway is built according to the Lib Dems.
Ealing Lib Dem Transport Spokesman, Cllr Gary Malcolm, said: “Giving the green light to Heathrow expansion exposes the Government’s shallow commitment to tackling climate change. Heathrow airport is also already in breach of EU limits for nitrogen dioxide pollution, and a new runway will be an environmental disaster for local people in Ealing in terms of increased pollution and noise.”
The party set up a stall this weekend near Morrisons in central Acton to collect signatures against the plan.
