TV company to celebrate local suppliers with awards
Great Food Live, UKTV Food’s daily show have launched the inaugural UKTV Food: Local Hero Awards.
Celebrating home-grown success, the awards are a tribute to everyone who cheerfully puts great British produce onto plates, into our shops and markets, and on pub and restaurant tables. Vote for local food heroes on www.uktvfood.co.uk and share your recommendations with the rest of the country. Nominations end on 21st August.
Once all the votes are in, shortlisted nominees will battle it out in a celebratory 11-part TV series, broadcast this autumn. Who will be Britain’s UKTV Food Hero 2006? Could a dairy ice cream producer in Cornwall be a contender, or will it be a market stall in Pinner Farmers’ Market, or fishmonger in Falmouth? Recommend your special spot for an award – who knows, you might be backing a winner.
A number of Ealing businesses are in the running. You could vote for your favourite stall at the Farmer's Market, or a local butcher, baker or deli perhaps. How about Richardsons, Pierces or Thoroughgoods the butchers? Parkers traditional bread and cakes in South Ealing, the Village Bakery in Pitshanger's selection of continental breads or the excellent choice of cakes in The Bakers in Ealing Broadway? Nikky's greengrocers or FarmW5? A great restaurant? Give your local businesses a vote of confidence and encourage them to keep our shops individual. You do have to register with UKTV's site in order to vote or nominate.
