Calling plants "weeds" is an over the top extreme reaction to something growing there just because it isn't grass!Generally a weed is a plant that has not been deliberately planted in position but since many people wouldn't recognise the difference between cultivated or self-seeded plants and rare wild orchids or other plants - deliberately or unintentionally or just accidentally planted or self-seeded - the definition is pretty unnecessary and useless.  There is a place for nearly all those plants who choose to grow there too.  Grass can also be a weed.I watched a wren catching a floating thistle seed the other day.  I've seen goldfinches pulling dandelion seeds out of a dandelion clock.  If you actually spent more time looking and watching and enjoying wildlife instead of ranting you might see those too.Perhaps we should bring back a Be Nice to Nettles Week since so many British butterflies lay their eggs on nettles. We've already had a well known contestant on a well known show who didn't know that caterpillars turn into butterflies. On University Challenge just last night the contestants couldn't even recognise an oak leaf.  Soon we and our children won't be able to recognise any of our well known trees.  Our literature will lose a lot of meaning.  Even Ealing Council has changed the Ealing logo so that the tree has no leaves on it at all! You'd think it was acid rain all over again - when led by Govt we actually changed our behaviour to stop that!
