A Southall business has been ordered to pay £4,000 in fines and charges for fly-tipping as the council begins a crackdown.
Tarique Hamid, who runs Nehanas Kitchen in Southall, pleaded guilty to six offences of dumping commercial waste in a nearby residential street.
As well as a £3,000 fine, Hamid was ordered to pay more than £1,000 in costs, and a £50 victim surcharge by Ealing Magistrates’ Court.
Fly-tipping costs council taxpayers tens of thousands every year for clean-ups, and the council have even started posting images of dumpers locally to unmask culprits.
During a six-day investigation, council officers installed CCTV cameras on South Road and caught staff running between cars to dump the rubbish on a smaller residential street on six occasions in August. The council had to fork out £150 each day to clear the rubbish. Since the prosecution, contractors have reportedly found the street clear of rubbish.
Attempts have been made to contact Hamid for comment, but online listings suggest Nehanas Kitchen – which is described as a cafe and restaurant – is now closed.
Councillor Mik Sabiers, cabinet member for environment and highways, said: “I am happy that we have secured this prosecution of an irresponsible business in Southall who clearly thought it was above the law.
“Fly-tipping is an irresponsible and criminal act. We will not tolerate it in any form and we will prosecute the people behind it.
“We work across the borough to crack down on fly-tipping and have made it much easier to report fly-tippers, so I encourage anyone who witnesses such behaviour to report it so we can take strong action.”

The council launched the Cleaner Southall campaign last autumn specifically to prevent the dumping of rubbish in Southall Broadway and Southall Green.
Pictures of offenders caught on camera fly-tipping are being displayed locally to help people recognise offenders and ensure they are fined. Increased enforcement is also operating in the area.
